José Antonio Cubela, raised in Miami, Florida, received an Associate in Arts with honors from Miami Dade Community College where he studied with Linda Byrd. In 2002, Mr. Cubela graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree under the instruction of Dr. Gary Wolf at the University of Central Florida in Orlando in 2002. At Texas Christian University, Mr. Cubela graduated with a Master of Music in Piano Performance where he studied under Maestro Harold Martina in 2004.

Mr. Cubela received several honors and awards, which include: First Place in the University of Central Florida Piano Concerto Competition, performer at the TCU/Cliburn Piano Institute (now known as Piano Texas Institute), placement in the Gray Perry Young Collegiate Piano Competition held in Orlando, Florida, awarded membership into Pi Kappa Lambda and The American Matthay Association. He studied in master classes with Seymore Bernstein, Jose Feghali, Yoheved Kaplinsky, David Korevaar, Christina Ortiz, Tamas Ungar, and Arbo Valdma.

Mr. Cubela has been an adjudicator for the DMTA, Fort Worth Music Teachers’ Association, MCMTA, National Federation of Music Clubs-Junior Festival, Piano Forum and Weatherford MTA piano competitions and festivals. He is currently the Immediate Past President of the Fort Worth Music Teachers’ Association. In addition to being active in several organizations, he was one of the performing artists for the Van Cliburn Foundation’s Musical Awakenings Education Programs. He is a professor of primary and secondary piano at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth and Tarrant County Community College, NE campus. At his private studio, he teaches piano students of all ages and levels. Many of Mr. Cubela’s piano students have won piano competitions and have been accepted to prestigious universities around the U.S.A pursuing a degree in music.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Cubela is an active performer both as a soloist and collaborative pianist. He has premiered piano works by Brazilian composer Daniel Solyom, collaborated with Mejia Ballet, actively performed as a duo-piano team with Dr. Ilka Araujo, and performs with several chamber groups. In the summer of 2017, Mr Cubela spent six weeks adjudicating and working with students and their teachers under the auspices of the International Piano Performance Committee in Taiwan. In the Summer of 2018, Mr. Cubela performed at the Conservatório de Música de Águeda in Portugal with colleague Doris Gameiro. This summer, Mr Cubela will once again perform at the Conservatório de Música de Águeda in Portugal with colleagues Doris Gameiro and Svetlana Martins. He is also the organist, choir director and music director at Christ the King & All Saints’ Anglican Church in Fort Worth.
